Friends, As of today, searchers have not been able to locate John's body. There was a huge effort, with teams from all over the state, and some out of state through 4:00 a.m. Sunday morning. Very expensive sonar equipment swept the 1.5 mile area from the Singing Bridge, down as close as safely possible to lock and dam 4, which is the area they assumed he would be in, to no avail. In my last briefing with the Frankfort Director of the Office of Emergency Management, they informed me that they would make a general (visual, no divers or dragging) sweep of that area 3 - 4 times daily to continue the search, but it is unlikely that the amount of volunteers we had this weekend would be back. So basically now it is a waiting game. Emily and I are back at home, and I plan to be back in the office on Monday (March 16th) if they haven't found him by then. Funeral arrangements are on hold for now, as I can't really think that far at this point. I will need some help working through the administrative things that have to take place at work. I am not even sure of the process or if anything can move forward without a death certificate, and I don't think they will produce one until he is found. I know I have a lot to work through. I consider myself the luckiest person in the world to have had such a close and loving relationship with John. We truly were best friends. My grief is that he is not here to share all the plans and dreams we had for the future; my joy is for the years we did share. Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers, they are needed, and much appreciated. I also realize that you all are grieving as well. Take heart in knowing that John had a wonderful day, laughing, cutting up with friends and enjoying nature. I think if he had known it was his time, he may have wished it that way. Please pass this to the rest of his team and mine, and others as you feel would benefit.
